Circular Yokohama, Harch’s online platform that aims to promote the circular economy in Yokohama, has launched the “Hoshiten Circular Library” project in July 2023, a bookshelf where books that individuals no longer need are shared with the next person who will enjoy reading them.

This project is being held at the “qlaytion gallery” in Hoshiten qlay, Circular Yokohama’s base of operations, and anyone is free to participate. Please feel free to visit “Hoshiten Circular Library” after reviewing the project details below and checking the opening hours.

What is the “Hoshiten Circular Library”?

The Hoshiten Circular Library is a circulating bookshelf where books that someone no longer reads are passed on to the next person. Everyone brings a little bit of their unwanted books and puts them in the bookshelf, and then someone else takes them. By circulating books as they travel through the town, we aim to share the knowledge and stories of local residents in a circular fashion.

How to use the library

The Hoshiten Circular Library is open to everyone, from children to adults. If you have any books you no longer need, please bring them to us regardless of genre, from picture books to novels to business books.

If you find a book you are interested in on the bookshelf, please feel free to sit on a chair or bench and take your time reading it. If you find a book that you particularly like, you can take it home.

*You do not need to return the books you take home. If you no longer need it after reading it, please return it to the Hoshiten Circular Library again.

★In addition to the Hoshiten Circular Library, various events are held daily at the qlaytion gallery. Please follow Circular Yokohama’s official Instagram (@circular_yokohama) and qlaytion gallery’s official Instagram (@qlaytion_gallery) for information.

Circular Yokohama will continue to provide information on sustainable initiatives in the future.
