The event theme: Redesigning society and business with “extended stakeholders”
The theme of this 11th event was “Redesigning society and business by considering ‘extended stakeholders.'” In this day and age, when we are faced with various environmental and social issues, we need to understand the relationships among diverse entities from a broad perspective, such as the producers of materials and the people who live around them, for example.
The IDEAS FOR GOOD editorial team has focused on the concept of “care” as a concept for rethinking and restoring relationships and creating new values. Until now, IDEAS FOR GOOD has explored the wellbeing of diverse entities, introducing not only so-called “care work” initiatives such as medical care, nursing care, and childcare, but also a wide range of care in a broader sense, from traditional South African spirit and management from a nature perspective.
We invited Masafumi Kawachi, president of Deep Care Lab and co-chair of Public and Design, a general incorporated association, to the event. Deep Care Lab is a creative studio that co-creates experimental projects and projects that nurture imagination. Public and Design is a social innovation studio that co-creates experiments with companies, local governments, and communities with the mission of “lighting up my inner light through public restructuring.”

In this event, while unraveling the “invisible negatives” brought about by existing business and design, we reexamined the relationships among beings, not limited to human beings, from the perspective of “care.” Kawachi shared his interpretation of “care” and explained why he believes it’s crucial in this era of climate crisis. He also discussed how he leverages imagination to consider diverse stakeholders and apply it to business, exploring the potential value and richness generated through this process, with examples of actual initiatives.
