Harch initiatives for Circular Economy featured in Nikkei Digital Newspaper

Harch initiatives for Circular Economy featured in Nikkei Digital Newspaper

  • On May 14, 2026

Harch initiatives were featured in the digital edition of Nikkei, published on April 1.

The article introduces movements by local governments that position the circular economy as a “growth industry,” as well as the expansion of initiatives in collaboration with companies and financial institutions. It highlights how Yokohama City, Saitama Prefecture, and others are advancing measures to create new industries centered on resource circulation.

Within this context, the article featured Harch’s initiative related to the Circular City Transition Indicator, which was jointly developed with Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank in December 2025. This indicator collects, organizes, and visualizes data for all more than 1,700 municipalities across Japan. In addition to already systematized indicators such as recycling rates and regional economic circulation rates, it also includes data that had not previously been systematized, such as the presence or absence of strategies and the status of local activities. The article also mentions that the indicator is increasingly being used for purposes such as policy making and responses in local assemblies.
